With the start of a new month comes a new challenge. ‘Plastic Free July’ is an initiative which aims to encourage Australians to change their practices and be a part of making a change and reducing their environmental footprint. We send a whopping 1 million tonnes of plastic to landfill each year, a shocking figure considering that every piece of plastic which was ever made still exists on earth somewhere. We can all cut down this figure significantly by reducing our reliance on single-use plastics and making a few small changes to our lives.
How it works:
1. Attempt to buy no plastic packaging in July. You can choose to participate for a 1 day, 1 week or 1 month. This year we are also offering the TOP FOUR challenge (avoid water bottles, straws, plastic bags and takeaway coffee cups).
2. Keep a dilemma bag for any plastic packaging you can’t avoid and share a photo with us.
3. Attend one of our free Plastic Free July Events or host your own.
So buy a reusable coffee cup, don’t accept that straw with your drink and take a green bag when you go shopping – it’s that easy!
